Canadian Lentils Announce Winners
of Recipe Challenge Bloggers

SASKATOON, April 13, 2012 – Today, Canadian Lentils announced the winners of their Lentil Recipe Revelations Challenge, with Alaina Leslie of Kinston, ON taking home the title of Grand Prize Winner for her Curried Lentil Poutine recipe.

“We are pleased to recognize Alaina Leslie for her unique lentil recipe,” says Amanda Ryan with Canadian Lentils.  “Poutine is a favourite winter meal for many Canadians. We felt that her twist on the traditional recipe put lentils into a meal that most people would not think of including them in, really making the lentils stand out.  The recipe is not only delicious but is also easy enough for everyone to prepare at home.”

For her creative and tasty recipe Leslie is putting $1000 cash in her pocket, but she is not the only one who came out of this contest a winner.  Runner-up prizes were also awarded to the creators of four other entries - Red Velvet Lentil Cupcakes, Crisp White Lentil and Onion Fritters, Lentil and Asparagus Salad, and Lentil and Chickpea Curry with Coconut Milk.

With over 50 entries in the challenge, something Canadian Lentils plans to turn into an annual event, the competition was incredibly tight. “We had such a great response to the challenge,” explains Ryan.  “All of the recipes we received incorporated lentils in such a unique way that really showcased the versatility of lentils in food.  This made narrowing it down to just the top five an incredibly difficult task.”
